The town of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia was the site of John Brown’s raid, an attempt to start a slave revolt. The town is situated on a small piece of land where the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers come together between Maryland and Virginia. Brown’s last stand took place at a small brick building about 50 yards from the point which remains in tact today, as does most of the Civil War era town.
